Jigging is the practice of fishing with a jig, which as you’ll probably already know, is a type of fishing lure. A jig consists of a lead sinker with a hook which is molded into it and is usually covered by a soft body which is used to attract fish. Jigs are created with the intention of creating a jerky, vertical motion as opposed to spinnerbaits which move through the water horizontally.
The jig is an extremely versatile device and is able to be used in both salt and fresh waters. They are also versatile as many different species are attracted to this type lure, making them very popular amongst anglers, especially anglers who shop with us here at Ocean Tackle Store.
For successful jigging, the jigger need to be using a rod which is designed in such a way that it is good for feeling a strike under the water. It also needs to stay in contact with the lure and to be able to get to where the fish are actually situated. Most fish that are caught by jigs are on the bottom or near the bottom of the body of water, be it a lake, stream or the ocean.
